Italy is as much a honeymoon destination as it is for family vacations. But of course, the particular destination for a honeymoon in Italy will not be the same if you are planning a trip to Italy with kids. When it comes to a beach tour of Italy, the first names that come to mind are Puglia, San Fruttuoso, Calabria, Viareggio, San Vito lo Capo in Sicily, Vasto in Abruzzo, Ischia, Capo Testa and Chia in Sardinia. But most of these beaches are not ideal for families. A trip to Italy with kids needs to be planned well. The adults may have fun anywhere in the country but the kids need to be comfortable and must like the beaches.
Here are Italy’s best beaches for families.
Rimini is known for its nightlife but it is also one of the most popular beach destinations for Italian families. It has a fine combination of recreation and culture, a warm climate and some very nice crowds. The warm weather on the shores of Adriatic Sea is just ideal for kids. Rimini has a serene setting despite the crowds and the young partying at some hotspots. Rimini is home to about 40 km in beaches. That is a vast patch of sun, sand and sea. La Marina is itself 15 km long. Rimini is also home to around 2500 hotels which would ensure that families will find a place to put up. Then there is Dolphinarium, a place that thrills kids and adults alike.
Tuscany is home to some amazing beaches, some of which are perfect for families. Monte Argentario is arguably the best beach in Tuscany. Rimini is more affordable but Monte Argentario has an ambience and landscape that is seldom matched by other beaches in the country. Then there is Cala Di Forno. It is one of the few relatively untouched natural wonders. The wilderness, the serenity, swimming, trekking and sunbathing at Cala Di Forno would mesmerize any kid or adult. The activities make for a wonderful family vacation.
Elba is another interesting choice for families. The island is unforgettable with its historical hamlets, the boat rides, the gulfs, mountain biking, trekking and the usual lazing on the beach.
You may also consider Cinque Terre. Families can indulge in kayaking, diving, snorkeling, the seafood and then there are some spectacular views. Cinque Terre is also known for its welcoming residents and generous hospitality.
