Ronda is a city that deserves to be enjoyed without haste or schedules, approaching its history and enjoying its anecdotes and curiosities.
Ronda New Bridge
One of the most important architectural attractions of Ronda is the Puente Nuevo or New Bridge. With a height of 98 meters, you can see the marks left by the water on the mountain. Currently, the water level is much lower which exposes a spectacular gorge.
The first project dates back to 1735, and it has suffered occasional mishaps over time, such as the collapse of one of its arches. It was built with stones quarried from El Tajo canyon and today it’s kept in very good condition.
The outlook from the bridge over El Tajo canyon is splendid. The height is frightening, overwhelming. The bridge unites the new and the old. It gradually goes down to the river and you can see the canyon in all its magnitude.
Can you pass under the bridge? Let’s try. Yes, you can, and you can visit the house that regulated the flow of the river. A hidden spectacle in the small lake that forms the current. Up again. Unhurried, the slope is not too heavy.
El Tajo is a natural area represented by a gorge carved by the river Guadalevin. It’s about 500 meters long, 100 meters deep, and has a width of about 50 meters.
The view from the New Bridge is chilling. The feelings of emptiness and dizziness accompany you in every moment and yet you can feel the attraction as you venture to admire the vastness of nature.
Without any doubt, Ronda is one of the most charming villages of Andalusia.0
