Overview

This tour of Italy’s northern coast and Piedmont wine region is perfect for either a short holiday or as an add-on to a longer tour. Enjoy the best of both the Italian Riviera and the country’s finest vineyards, experiencing two sensational highlights of Italy.

Why should you have to choose between the Italian coast and its spectacular wine country? By beginning in the picturesque coastal villages of Cinque Terre, you will get the chance to sample the exquisite seafood dishes that the area is known for before travelling inland and then sipping on the award-winning product of Piedmont’s vineyards.

Translating to ‘at the foot of the mountain’, Piedmont is ringed on one side by the Alps and is full of tiny villages and artisan wineries along with some of the finest food of any of Italy’s regions. Sample a wide range of the products that this region is so famous for, and enjoy the charming countryside and rustic buildings as you travel.

This is a customized tour which means you can pick your own travel dates, level of hotels and sightseeing and we will price it out for you!

Cinque Terre Town

DAY 1: ARRIVAL

This tour starts in Portovenere and ends in Milan. We recommend you fly into Florence and out of Milan or this tour can be part of a longer trip we help create for you.

Arrive independently in the coastal area of Cinque Terre; five seaside villages that are linked together by a series of cliffside paths. Spend the night in Portovenere, the nearby ‘sixth town’ of Cinque Terre. We can also arrange transportation from any airport or city in Italy.

DAY 2: CINQUE TERRE

After breakfast at your hotel, you will meet your private guide and begin a day of exploring Cinque Terre’s villages by boat and train. Hopping along the coast, you will have the chance to visit the villages of Manarola, Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare; each a picturesque location overlooking the Mediterranean Ocean.

As well as iconic architecture and incredible hiking trails, Cinque Terre is known for its beautiful surrounding countryside that produces incredible wine, olives, lemons and the ingredients of the famous pesto alla genovese. This is a day to enjoy the freshest seafood and finest local ingredients, before returning to Portovenere in the evening.

DAY 3: PORTOFINO AND SANTA MARGHERITA

Your third day begins with meeting your personal driver at your hotel for a transfer to the Barolo area in Piedmont, stopping twice along the way.

First, visit the seaside village of Portofino that has been inspiring artists and writers for generations with its ancient marine and fishing heritage. Right on the coast of the Italian Riviera, you will be surrounded by green hills and the deep blue ocean, perfect for a relaxing start to the morning.

Next, you will stop off in Santa Margherita Ligure, one of the best resorts on the northern coast of Italy. Situated in a beautiful little cove, the town is ringed by hills dotted with villas and features incredible views of the surrounding area.

On arrival in the Barolo region, you will receive a gourmet ‘Piedmont style’ dinner at your hotel and discover why the area’s food is just as revered as its wine.

DAY 4: VERGNE, LA MORRA AND ALBA

Piedmont’s landscape is idyllic, and today you will get to see its splendour as you visit the provinces of Vergne, La Morra and Alba, which is the capital of the Barolo region. Barolo wine is unlike any other, and you will be able to sample a variety of different vintages during an exclusive wine tasting session, followed by a traditional lunch at the winery.

Simply driving through the countryside of Piedmont is an experience in itself, surrounded by idyllic vineyards and groves with the sweet smell of the harvest in the air and the landscape undulating around you. You will return to Barolo in the evening for your final night in this area.

DAY 5: ASTI AND MONFERRATO

On your final full day in Piedmont, you will be met by your driver escort at your hotel and journey to the glamorous city of Milan through the Langhe region, stopping off in various towns and villages along the way. This is another opportunity to appreciate some of the finest Italian countryside; the Langhe and Roero district of the country is known for its charming, rustic scenery.

Two of the places you will visit en route are Asti, home of the famous sparkling wine of the same name, and the small provinces that make up the area of Monferrato. The entire region is perfect for food lovers, with exquisite local cuisine and fine wines wherever you visit.

Today you can enjoy another wine tasting experience as part of your tour, which again includes a delicious local lunch afterwards. The final full day of your tour will be spent dining on only the highest quality ingredients surrounded by stunning countryside, enjoying a slice of ‘la dolce vita’.

At the end of the day you will be dropped off in Milan, the global capital of design and fashion. This stylish city is home to some incredible architecture as well as some of the most famous fashion designers in the world, and is a wonderful place to spend your last night in Italy.

DAY 6: DEPARTURE

On your final morning you will be treated to a hotel breakfast before you leave, and then return to the airport independently for your journey home.
