DAY 3: FREE TIME IN ROME

One of the best ways to enjoy Rome’s atmosphere, and discover some of the unique spots that make it such a special city, is to explore at your own pace. This day gives you the freedom to wander the streets on foot and visit any locations that are on your tourist bucket list, taking in the authentic aspects of life in Rome as you go.

Spend the evening sampling classic Italian dishes such as pizza or pasta, and enjoy a nighttime stroll back to your hotel for your last night in Rome.

DAY 4: ROME, SIENA, MONTERIGGIONI AND FLORENCE

A private driver will meet you after breakfast to begin your transfer to the city of Florence. This journey features a stop in the city of Siena for independent exploration of its medieval architecture and stunning scenery. Film fans might recognise the central Piazza del Campo from the James Bond movie, The Quantum of Solace, where horse races also take place every summer.

Your journey to Florence takes you through the Chianti countryside, covered with olive groves, castles and vineyards. Your second stop on the drive will be at one of these Tuscan vineyards for a tour around its cellars, a fantastic lunch overlooking the landscape, and then a wine tasting experience. If there is time, you may also be able to make a stop in the small town of Monteriggioni before reaching Florence.

In the late afternoon, your driver will drop you off at your hotel in the heart of Florence, and you can spend the evening exploring or relaxing after a day filled with some of the best food and drink that the region has to offer!

DAY 5: FLORENCE

Today you will take part in another small group tour, this time exploring the city of Florence and learning about its rich history. As part of the tour, you will visit three of the city’s finest churches; the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore which has been nicknamed ‘the Duomo’, the grand catholic Santa Trinità and the gothic Orsanmichele.

Florence is a city that is brimming with culture, from the artwork that inhabits its galleries to the architecture lining its streets. On this tour, you will get to see famous sights such as Brunelleschi’s Dome, the golden Gates of Paradise that are part of Florence’s Baptistery, the L-shaped Piazza della Signoria and the iconic Giotto’s Campanile bell tower. Great artists such as Michelangelo, Botticelli, da Vinci and Brunelleschi have lived in Florence, all of which have contributed to the city’s fame as the home of the Renaissance.

After your morning tour, you are free to continue exploring the city under your own steam, spending more time at some of the locations your guide will have pointed out or just appreciating the local atmosphere. Sample some of Florence’s finest delicacies for both lunch and dinner, and enjoy your final night in the city however you choose.

DAY 6: DEPARTURE

You will have organised your own independent transfer to either the airport or the station, to continue your holiday in Italy or return home.

Overview

Discover two of Italy’s most famous cities, from the historic grandeur of Rome to the elegant beauty of Florence.

Rome is Italy’s most famous and most popular destination, known as ‘The Eternal City’ and an absolute must for those who love history and ancient architecture. With iconic sights such as the Pantheon and the Colosseum, you will really feel as though you have stepped back in time as you wander the spectacular streets and admire the preserved splendour of the city.

Florence is not quite so ancient as Rome but is just as impressive, with an incredibly rich cultural history that is partly owed to the wealthy Medici family who first gained power in the 1200s. The city’s prosperity in the arts made it the birthplace of the Renaissance, and you can now visit some of the finest galleries in the world in Florence and admire pieces by masters such as Raphael and Caravaggio. The cultural highlight of Florence however has got to be a sighting of Michelangelo’s David; a sculptural masterpiece that has continued to influence how the human form is represented in art today.

You can add this tour onto an existing trip, and also customise the itinerary to include more days in a certain city if you wish. You will not be fully escorted on this tour but will be met by private local guides at your hotel for sightseeing trips, and have local assistance on hand 24/7.
